If you had to hazard a guess at which is the strongest muscle in the body, would you have guessed your tongue?
Probably not! The tongue, which is rich in muscle is in reality not the strongest muscle but a group of muscles that intertwine making the tongue as a whole one of the strongest muscles in the human body. This makes sense when we consider all the talking, chewing and licking we do in a day.
When we go on a diet the last thing we think about it measuring or weighing our tongue. Also both might prove difficult! However, the tongue like the body puts on weight. So a heftier person has a fatter tongue!
Tongues can be great indicators of general health or health issues. It’s common knowledge that yeast infections can show up on the tongues surface quite quickly. Also, more rarely known is that a red tongue can signify a vitamin B12 deficiency for example. Perhaps this is why Doctors tell us to stick out our tongues. Good tongue hygiene also can prove to aid the entire body too.
Every tongue is completely unique and can in fact serve to identify a person much like a fingerprint. One would imagine though that asking people to lick ink and stick it on paper would be a messy and rather distasteful business, so fingerprinting is probably the best way to go!
