The idea of someone being kidnapped and then held for ransom is hardly new, but there is one individual that did try to do something a bit different to the norm. However, it turns out that he kind of failed at what was actually a stupid attempt.
The individual is Kenneth Lutz who lived in California with his parents. Back in 1974, he decided that he was a bit short of cash so came up with what he thought to be a fool-proof plan that would lead to him getting some much-needed money. So, what did he do?
Well, good old Kenneth came up with the idea of making out as if he had been kidnapped and then stating that a ransom of $5000 would have to be paid for his release. The only problem was that he had kidnapped himself and he was discovered a few hours later hiding in a camper van behind his house. He had hardly covered his tracks, and he stayed pretty close to home as well, so he had clearly not thought this thing through enough for it to ultimately work.
Unsurprisingly he did not get the $5000.
