The problem with politics and standing for election is that you need to come up with a pretty good slogan that has the ability of making you stand out from the crowd. However, it is not always as easy as you think, and there are occasions where it has gone very wrong indeed for the candidate.
But then, what do you think is the worst slogan ever created for a US Presidential election?
The answer is widely accepted to be that this accolade goes to Al Smith, who was standing for election during the period of time known as the Prohibition. He was firmly against the idea of the Prohibition, and it formed a central part of his entire campaign that he would overturn things if he was successful.
Of course, this all sounds like a good idea and something that he could hold onto, but he then made a massive error when he came up with his slogan. It said as follows: ‘Vote for Al Smith and he’ll make your wet dreams come true.’
Now, this was not some kind of joke nor a prank being played on him, as it was a very real and a very serious slogan that he had created. The only problem is that it generally does not read as being something that you would then associate with alcohol, so it certainly did not help him to be seen as being a serious candidate for office.
