Having sunburn is certainly something that we have pretty much all experienced at some point in our lives, but what is actually going on with our skin? Well, the truth is that there is more happening than you perhaps understand, and it turns out that our skin is being pretty clever.
When the sun hits, we all think that it is destroying our skin cells and then dying as a result. Well, the truth is slightly different to what you were expecting.
What is actually going on is that your skin is reacting to it being damaged, but what you are experiencing with the sunburn part is the DNA of those cells effectively killing themselves as that means that they are not going to then develop into skin cancer at some point. So, they are sacrificing themselves so that you do not suffer in the long-term, which is seriously cool and does show that our body kind of knows what it is doing.
