The cost associated with hosting the Olympic Games has been known to be growing at a crazy rate over the last few decades. It is often the case that the countries, or even just the cities alone, end up in debt as a direct result of being given this apparent accolade of being the host city.
However, what would you guess as being the most expensive summer Olympic Games ever hosted? There is a pretty good chance that most people would argue that it was connected to the last one held because surely the costs are just going to continue to rise every single time?
Well, that is not the case. Instead, the most expensive games held were in 2008 in Beijing, where it cost an absolutely mind-blowing $40 billion. However, that is not the most expensive games ever if you include the winter versions, as that accolade goes to Russia for the 2014 games in Sochi. The crazy thing is that the Russian games cost more than $40 billion, yet the games in Beijing held more than three times the number of events, which just shows how Russia vastly overpaid for the honor.
