Penguins are cool, but there is one fact about them that might surprise you and it is all to do with Antarctica. Everybody knows that Antarctica is made up of ice and glaciers, but it seems that all of that ice is not the direct result of nature, at least not in the sense that you would have perhaps been expecting.
Instead, it has been estimated by scientists that approximately 3% of the ice that exists in Antarctica is actually made up of penguin urine. To be honest, it does make some kind of sense when you consider the huge number of penguins that are on the continent and they need to pee somewhere. Also, it’s cold so all of that liquid is indeed going to freeze up, but it then gives you some kind of an idea as to how many penguins have existed in Antarctica, if they have been able to have such a profound impact on the actual geography.
