A lot of garbage ends up getting into the oceans, but you are probably not aware of just how much is thrown out and never picked up. Of course, when you have an area the size of the Pacific, nothing is going to be small, as a lot of countries border it, but even taking that into consideration does not accurately explain the sheer size of what is known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Through observations, it is believed that this garbage patch actually covers the same area size as the state of Texas. This means it covers approximately 270,000 square miles, and as you can imagine that is a lot of garbage. Of course, this garbage patch includes so many different items from various countries that it is impossible to accurately take stock, but just imagine what that is doing and how this garbage dump has now gotten out of control.
