Whenever you look at a silver Dollar, then you are going to lay eyes on the image of an eagle, but what a lot of people do not know is that this image is based on an actual real eagle that went by the name of Peter. Yes, it is hardly imaginative, but then getting your image on a coin is pretty cool.
The way in which he came to appear on the coin is more straightforward than you would initially think. Between the years of 1830 and 1835, he was largely adopted by the people that worked at the Mint and basically provided a model for their drawings. Even when he died he was stuffed and is still there on display in the Mint to this very day.
So, whenever you have that silver Dollar in your possession, at least now you can tell anybody that is willing to listen about Peter.
