When Starbucks first emerged on the scene, they only had two sizes: a tall, which was 12 ounces, and a short, which was eight ounces. Today, the sizes range from an 8-ounce short to a 31-ounce trenta. The chain gets its name from the book Moby Dick, as Starbuck was the name of the first mate on the ship. The logo was also originally brown, but was changed to green in 1987 because the CEO felt that it was more inviting and affirming. The company plans to open over 3,000 locations in China by 2019. Employees of Starbucks in China get an added bonus unheard of in the United States— the company pays for housing for all full-time employees.
