Whatever your preconceived notions are about South Africa, some of the most well-known facts are that South Africa is often a dangerous place to live. Loads of newspaper articles will point out how chancy it is, however, despite the danger, Cape Town has been voted one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Holidaymakers flock there all year round to enjoy the great weather and even better food.
It is interesting to note that amongst these weird facts, South Africa, being a 3rd World country has been rated as having the best drinking water in the world. Well, that would be 2nd or 3rd on some fact lists. Not only does it rate as best tasting water, but also safest to drink.
It seems that despite the dangerous warnings and often negative press South Africa has been the only country to shut down any further nuclear weapons building, believing that nuclear weapons are unfair and unethical.
This country is so vast and varied it boasts not only deserts, but wetlands akin to the rainforests, mountains, and drylands as well as subtropical forests. So, you’d never be bored with the scenery.
If you refer to the country as ‘South Africa’ you’d actually be wrong. The correct name for this beautiful country is the Republic of South Africa, or RSA for short.
One of the oldest mountains in the world is found here. Can you guess which mountain it is? If you guessed Table Mountain, in Cape Town, you’d be right. Often a soft formation of cloud sits atop Table Mountain, which locals call the ‘table cloth’!
Famous for its wine and fresh water perhaps you didn’t know that the Republic of South Africa is also very famous for its high-quality beer, supplying countries worldwide.
Rich in luscious and varied vegetation the RSA is home to over 7 million types of trees, which renders it as having one of the largest man-made forests on earth. South Africans are keen on planting trees and do so for any reason from celebrating events to marking times in history. Perhaps other countries should take a leaf out of their book, excuse the pun!
