The idea that something is ironic is often over-used. Back in 1986 there was undoubtedly one case that showed that irony was indeed alive and well.
In Florida, there was a court case which was held up for over 20 minutes when the 12 jurors found out that they were stuck in an elevator. This is clearly going to be an unfortunate thing to happen, especially when a trial is underway and everyone involved on the jury seems to be stuck in one place. It could, potentially cause huge delays in the trial and cost a huge sum of money, but that is not the ironic part in all of this.
Instead, the irony is that the court case that they were dealing with was a case against the Otis elevator company. Imagine being involved in that case and then one of the very things that the case was about then happened to you. Now, that is indeed, going to be irony on a major scale. It does make you wonder how much of a role it then played in the conclusion of the case itself.
