A surprising number of people visit Paris and are then partly disappointed at what they see or how they experience the city. The French government state that this is because they feel that the city has been given this title of being extremely romantic, that people have higher expectations than what should be seen as being normal.
However, it seems that no other country has gone so far in trying to deal with this disappointment than Japan. It turns out that the Japanese have a 24-hour helpline based in France to help those tourists that have visited the city and are feeling rather despondent at what they have experienced.
They refer to it as a Paris syndrome, where there is a distinct culture shock for the Japanese citizens that fully expected to see this artistic and romantic city. If they fail to experience that exact thing, then at least help is at hand from their own embassy.
