Are you aware of some of the more subtle things that you tend to do with your actions? You probably don’t even give them any real thought on the majority of occasions, but perhaps you should as it can open up an entirely new world of possibilities, as well as understanding your own self.
As humans, we are all guilty of displaying certain self-pacifying behavior, and we are talking about small movements that we will often just take for granted. This has been shown in studies to include touching your neck, playing with your hair in some way, or some individuals will even play with their tongue when their mouth is closed.
So, why do we do this? Well, the answer is that these small movements bring us a certain sense of peace, and in the process of doing so it encourages the brain to release endorphins, which are the feel-good chemicals. These chemicals are known to soothe us to such an extent that it then allows us to carry on with what we really want to be doing at that time.
