In a number of African countries there is a very real risk of your livestock being killed by lions and other big cats that would think nothing about grabbing an animal for a snack. However, it turns out that farmers in Botswana have taken to using a rather innovative method to help combat this particular problem.
There is a theory that if a lion thinks that its prey has seen it that it will not attack as it prefers stealth and sneaking up on them. So, keeping that in mind, the farmers decided that they had to do something about it and it led to them painting eyes on the rear end of their animals.
Now, if you ever go to Botswana then you might indeed see animals with eyes in the wrong place, but it is a rather clever tactic to outsmart the lion. Apparently the number of attacks has decreased as a direct result of all of this so maybe they are indeed onto something.
