The Beatles had an impact on much more than just the music scene. They weren’t afraid to make their political opinions known, which fans took notice of. While many people know that The Beatles took a stance against the Vietnam War, not as many people know that they also took notice of the segregation in the southern United States.
That’s right, the band refused to play at a concert in Jacksonville, Florida, after finding out that it would be segregated. It became a part of their contract that they would not pay for segregated audiences, as The Beatles’ home country of England had much better race relations than that of the United States. The members of the band commented that they hadn’t realized how bad the racial issues were in the United States until they broke through and traveled to America.
