For some absolutely strange reason, the idea of sitting on top of a flagpole really took off back in the 1920’s. Ultimately, it led to people effectively competing with one another to see who would be able to break the record for this rather dangerous event that effectively became a hobby for some.
This was regarded as being endurance sitting where individuals would stay in the same position for as long as they could possibly cope, and it seems that people had an amazing ability to cope with it for a substantial period of time. How long? Well, the record for sitting on a flagpole stands at a rather stunning 51 days and 20 hours. You would have thought that they could have pushed it for another 4 hours just to get it up to 52 days though.
